How it is calculated
Most you accept to lose = account x the share you accept to lose.
Loss per share = entry price - stop price.
Number of shares = most you accept to lose / loss per share, rounded down to a whole share.
What the position costs = shares x entry price. Loss if the stop is hit = shares x loss per share.
Assumptions
- The most you accept to lose on one trade is 1% of the account.
- Shares are rounded down, so the loss never goes past what you accept.
- Fees are not counted, and a price can jump past a stop, so a real loss can be larger.
- This shows how risk is sized. It does not say what to trade.
