How it is calculated
Each month's amount goes in at the start of the month. The yearly return is split into twelve equal monthly steps.
Value at the end = amount x ((1 + i)^n - 1) / i x (1 + i)
Here i is the yearly return divided by 12, and n is the number of months. With a return of 0 the value is the amount times n.
The result is rounded to the paisa once, at the end.
In today's money = value at the end / (1 + inflation)^years.
Assumptions
- The amount goes in at the start of every month, for the whole period.
- The return of 12% a year is added at the end of each month (monthly compounding).
- The return is the same every year. Real returns go up and down.
- No fees, charges or tax are taken off.
