How it is calculated
At the start of each month the withdrawal is taken out. What is left earns one twelfth of the yearly return for that month and is added back.
Balance after a month = (balance - withdrawal) x (1 + yearly return / 12).
If the balance cannot pay a full withdrawal, it pays what is left and the plan ends there.
It is worked out exactly and rounded to the paisa once, when it is shown.
Assumptions
- The withdrawal is taken at the start of every month.
- The return of 10% a year is added at the end of each month (monthly compounding).
- The return is the same every year. Real returns go up and down.
- No fees, charges or tax are taken off.
